PIRATE UTOPIAS is a Web-delivered hyperdocument dealing with correspondences between the Buccaneer enclaves of the 17th and 18th Centuries and certain aspects of contemporary Hacker culture. It does this by presenting information about the two cultures on parallel tracks. Roll over the upper left corner for linear navigation buttons; the square one goes to the Credits and quits. Click on any Anachronism in a screen for a hyperlink to an analogous screen on the other track, which illustrates an instance of correspondence.

This project was created in Director and Shockwaved for viewing on the Internet through Netscape Navigator 2.0 or better. You should get these programs first, if you don't already have them. The Pirate Utopias project makes use of the advanced Netscape "frames" feature. To navigate properly through the frames, use icons in the left frame to guide you through the right frame. The "BACK" button in the Netscape menu bar will return you the the page you loaded in before the first Pirate Utopias page. Use our "RETURN TO FRONT PAGE" or "BACK TO THE BEGINNING" buttons to return properly from a link elsewhere.

This is a project of the Advanced Communication Technologies Laboratory, in the Radio, Television, Film Department of the University of Texas at Austin. It is very much under construction, and new material will be added as it becomes available. Please give us your feedback about the project with the Psychic Nomad Hotline.
