[efh] hacking cell phone for free internet, maybe? (Anybody own a Quadra 950?)

So this is probably a shot in the dark, but I just got a new phone, a samsung
blackjack, and i was looking around on a few forums and found someone asking if
there was any way to get internet on the phone without paying the ridiculous
amount the phone company wants to charge.  at first i didn't even look cause i
figured there was no way, but then someone posted the following:


"    First of all you have to get yourself a Mac Quadra 900/950. These are hard
to come by, but the effort is well worth it. What you are looking for is the
Nubus slot, and the MacAUI. Once you have this hardware, make sure it is
running at least Mac OS 8, and can successfully boot.
     Now the tricky part - dissassemble the Backjack, and disconnect the main
logic board from the display board and the camera. Now notice the pattern of
the connector on the underside of the board - this mates with the Nubus slot.
     With the power off on your Quadra, insert this connector into the Nubus,
close to the front of the case. Apply power to the phone first using the
charger, and then turn on the computer. Mac OS should detect the phone as a
"UNKNOWN PLINT" (sic) on the desktop. Browse it like a drive, and edit
""SProvisioning" to enable free networking. Specifically, look for the line
that starts #EngHSDPATMode=false. Remove the #, and change false to true. Thats
it. Play with the other settings at your peril.
     The one addtitional thing you must do is use a hard-set DNS address, such
as OpenDNS, since it seems this setting by default uses a DNS for manufacturing
purposes."


anyway, just curious if anyone knew anything about this or might be interested
in helping me give it a try.  i found One quadra 950 on ebay, it was like 35
bucks after shipping, if someone feels like giving it a shot with me i might
pick it up, unless someone around here has one i could use.  anyway, hope the
summer is treating everyone well. hack the planet! ;)
