In my previous life, most of my energy was spent creating visual artifacts,
and in my current life I am concentrating on virtual environments. During the
course of both lives, however, I have had occasion to do a bit of writing.
Here are some Academic Papers and Essays which deal with my thoughts and research.
Some date from my years as a cybernetic jeweler and some are current.
- The Legion Project (1998), a paper
describing my theories about dissociation in cyberspace, along with the implementation
and testing of a virtual world which instantiates those ideas.
- The Shaman's Mask (1990), my first attempt
at articulating the implications of inhabiting virtual space. This paper made
me realize I was no longer a jeweler, and that I had to find a larger paradigm
within which to frame my ideas.
- Jewelry for a Brave New World (1987), describes
my cybernetic jewelry in terms of information theory. Predates MIT's wearable
computer research by several years.
- Algorithmic Ornament(1988), describes
my cybernetic jewelry and the processes required to produce it .
- Identity sVector (1990), an early and provocative
abstract for a paper that never got written.
Here is some Fiction which I have written pretty much to amuse myself.
- The Time Raft is an unfinished science fiction
book for children.
- Thar and Pendroc is a short story about
love among the robots.
- The Orb is a magical tale set in an enchanted
kingdom.
